What happens when you visit.

The site publishes my writing, workbench notes and project updates. It does not ask you to create an account or submit personal information.

The hosting and network providers may retain ordinary technical logs needed to deliver, secure and diagnose the site. I do not use those logs to build advertising profiles.

Understanding what is useful.

I use Umami Cloud for public page visits and four kinds of link clicks: email, LinkedIn, GitHub and NOID. I also count article links copied, completed device share actions, audio starts and recordings reaching the end. A page view does not prove someone read an article, and an email-link click does not prove an email was sent.

Audio counters run at most once each per player on a page visit. Reaching the end can include skipping ahead; it does not prove someone heard the whole recording. Copying a link or completing a device share action does not prove it was posted or opened. These events use the public article path, with no recipient, share destination, playback position or saved-place data attached.

Measurements include the public page path and title, browser language and screen size, device/browser information and approximate country. Referral reporting keeps only recognised public service domains, such as LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube or Google. If you arrive through one of my Instagram or YouTube campaign profile links, I retain a fixed label for that campaign and link while you explore the site. This helps me understand which channels bring readers here. These labels are not visitor identifiers and use no tracking cookie or additional browser storage. Unknown referrals, other query strings, on-site search phrases and page fragments are discarded.

The recipient is Umami Cloud, separate from this website’s hosting provider. The configured analytics region is the US. The Hobby plan retains statistics for six months. Network addresses are processed to deliver requests and derive aggregate statistics such as country; I do not use analytics to identify visitors by name.

This integration uses no tracking cookies, advertising profiles, session recordings or heatmaps. It does not send names, email addresses, form contents or private-preview pages. Site access does not depend on analytics being available.

Your choice in this browser.

Analytics respects the browser’s Do Not Track setting and is not designed to bypass blockers. You can also exclude this browser below. That choice uses a local browser-storage setting, not a tracking identifier. Repeat it on other devices or profiles; clearing site storage removes the choice. Changing it reloads this page.

Your place, on this device.

Selected articles offer synthetic narration, not recordings of Ben or Bob speaking. Audio starts only when you press Play. When audience statistics are allowed, I count audio starting and reaching the end. No detailed listening history or playback positions are sent to analytics.

The recordings and adapted narration scripts are served by this website. Playback does not contact a voice-generation service.

If you enable “Remember my place”, this browser stores the article/audio revision, playback position and saved time locally. Saved positions expire after 30 days and are cleared when that recording is next opened. This is not an account or tracking identifier and is not sent to VNI or Umami.

Turn remembering off or choose “Start again / clear saved place” to remove the saved position. Clearing site storage also removes it; there is no cross-device sync. A changed audio version does not reuse an old position.

If the site changes.

A future newsletter, contact form, content-management system or analytics service will need a clear explanation here. I will identify its purpose, the information involved, how long it is retained and the choices available before it becomes part of the public site.
